Coplin Plantation School House

The school house needs renovations... how can you help?

In April 2023, the Coplin Plantation Schoolhouse Historical Society met with an interest in fundraising and sourcing help for needed renovations for the Coplin Plantation Schoolhouse. The Schoolhouse is over 200 years old and was closed in 1943.

The School sits on Route 16, about 4 miles out of Stratton. The Schoolhouse was entered in the National Register of Historic Places on September 11, 1997, by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior, Washington, DC. The Schoolhouse is believed to be the original Schoolhouse and was once known as the Bloomfield Plantation Schoolhouse.

The Old School is currently in need of new sill supports  and some interior painting. Once known as the Bloomfield Plantation Schoolhouse, it is believed to have been built in the late 1800's. Still on display at the Schoolhouse are the original student and teacher desks which have remained since it closed 80 years ago. The Society has a list of teachers from 1919 to 1943, along with a list of students who attended beginning September 7, 1925, until it closed in 1943.

The Coplin Plantation Schoolhouse closed 80 years ago in 1943. It needs sill work to be open to the public.
